Biological activity: Fumagillin is a selective and effective irreversible inhibitor of methionine aminopeptidase 2 (MetAP2), which is used as an antibiotic to treat microsporiasis.
Selective inhibition of Fumagillin in vitro Δ The growth of map1 strain does not affect the growth of wild type or p2 strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae without MetAP-2. In budding yeast cells, as an effective inhibitor of angiogenesis, Fumagillin not only reverses the growth of Vpr and inhibits the chemicalbook activity, but also inhibits the expression of Vpr-dependent virus gene based on human macrophage infection. Although the toxicity of fumagillin limits its use in humans, its analogues have a structure-activity relationship related to their angiogenic properties, and may be further used to explore the treatment of angiogenic dependent diseases.
