Introduction Podophyllotoxin, also known as podaferol, is a non-alkaloid lignan toxin. It is extracted from the root of podophylla. Its alcohol solution and ointment, with the trade names of Kangdinglai and Huaverruca enemy respectively, can be used as external drugs to treat Chemicalbook condyloma acuminatum caused by human papillomavirus. Podophyllotoxin and its synthetic derivatives, such as etoposide and teniposide, have shown wide choice in medical applications such as antiviral and anti-tumor agents.
